Albemarle Magazine Awarded Two IRMA Medals

Charlottesville, VA – albemarle magazine is very pleased to announce that it has won two of the most highly-coveted Medals at this year’s annual International Regional Magazine Association Conference, held in early September, hosted by Down East magazine in Bar Harbor, Maine.
The association, more commonly known by its acronym, IRMA, representing publications throughout the world, holds an annual competition – now in its 24th year – for both editorial and design awards, and entries are submitted by the 40-plus magazines that are members of IRMA. An independent panel of experts, judged submissions with no affiliation to IRMA, selected by vote by the association’s Board of Directors.
Albemarle received the two medals. The magazine won silver for Photographic Essay, “Shenandoah, Views of Our National Park, published in the October-November 2003 issue of the magazine, and photographed by Hullihen Williams Moore. This extraordinary eight-page article was published in conjunction with the launch of Moore’s work, published by the University of Virginia Press. Competition for this category was particularly high, with 15 entries from other magazines. The Gold Award in this category was presented to Texas Parks & Wildlife, with the Bronze awarded to and Arizona Highways.
Albemarle’s second Medal came in the category of, Feature Photography, for “albemarle-A story of Landscape and American Identity,” published in the August-September 2003 issue. Again, this was a highly coveted category, with 20 magazines entering submissions. Bronze medal winner for this photo essay was, Robert Llewellyn. The Gold in this category went to Texas Highways, with the Silver Award won by Arizona Highways.
